The Wine Detail Interface

Using the Wine Detail

The Wine Detail Tab is where all the major details about a specific wine can be entered and then later found. Here is where you will add photos and other information specific to a particular wine. All information entered on either the Detail, Serving Etiquette / Food and Wine Pairing or Tasting Notes sections will be automatically saved.

Adding Information by Field

Within the Wine Detail Tab section there are three options to choose from.

Most of this information is self-explanatory. The entry fields will allow you to enter your information and in most cases as you add new wines, for example, you will be building "drop down" menus that will facilitate the ease of adding new items.

Understanding the Detail:
Details include Winery Name, Vintage, Classification, Varietal, Country, Region, Appellation, Bottle Size, Storage Location (Where the wine is stored.) and Coordinates (What Column, Row and Position the bottle sits.), Drink By Date (The date a wine will begin to expire.), Purchase Date, Time Cellared ( Automatic entry of number of Years, Months, Days), Place of Purchase Store,Place of Purchase Web Site, Product Number, Quantity, and the Unit Cost of each bottle, Unit Value, Total Value, Rating Method, Rating, Label and General Comments.

1- Enter the Winery name by chooseing from the drop down or and Classification.
2- Select the Varietal from the drop down menu.
3- Input the Winery name, Vintage, Region, Storage Location, Drink By Date, Place of Purchase, Quantity, and the Cost and value of each bottle.
4- If you have a web site entered for this bottle of wine you can launch to that site by clicking on the "Launch" button.

Importing Images:

NOTE: There is a 2GB total file size limit for images in this software. What this means is that you cannot import more then 2GB (or 2000 MB) worth of images into the database. That is 2000 1MB (Hi Resolution) files or 10,000 200K (Low Resolution) files. To avoid running into this size limit, import only low resolution files (roughly 4in x 5in 72dpi or 200k per file) doing so will allow you to have ample room for your collection.

If you feel that you will run into this size limit for images, you may choose the option to “Store only a reference to the file” when importing an image. This option is located at the lower left hand corner of the import file dialog box when selecting the “Import” button. This option allows you to create a link to the image and not add to your total file size. This will allow you to reference an unlimited amount of images. The viewing results are the same in either option. However to use this option you must not delete the original image file from your computer. The original image file must remain on your computer so that when viewing an image the software can find and display it.

Tips for referencing images:
1. Create a folder that will hold all of the image files. Do not create subfolders for the images. (This will make it easy for you to update the links if you need to move the software to another computer.)
2. Leave the folder where it was originally located on your computer.
3. Do NOT delete the original image files from your hard drive.
4. If you need to move My Wine Collection to another computer, move the software files AND the image folder. When moved if you receive an error in the image window and the image cannot be displayed, re-import the first image as a reference, and the rest should automatically be updated for you.

To add wine labels or photos of the wine:
1- Click the image container located under the label "Wine Label" in the Detail section.
2- Once at the large image view select the "Import" button.
3- Repeat this for up to 3 images.
